With the verses: "Events of a Hail-storm," "Love Met by Contempt," "To an Indian Arrowhead," "Prayer to the Owl from Gxxxxx," "Intemperance," and those with the first lines: "God of all truth and temperance," "I am your friend A. Sydney Southworth," and "Then do not weep alone her fall" by Southworth. Sends new of his life as an abolitionist, phrenologist, writer, vegetarian, carriage maker, house builder, misanthrope, and member of the Northampton community. Expresses his religious and philosophical ideas; his criticisms of society; his inner conflicts, especially those between his spiritual goals and his "alimentiveness" and other physical wants; his friendship for Mr. Burleigh; and his sympathy with him at the death of Ellen Byrne. Discusses J. O. Wattles. Describes a fireworks display in Boston on July 4, 1843, and tells his feelings about his [Southworth's] voyage to Jamaica.
